Simple habits around washing, stacking and temperature changes can help painted ceramic tableware remain comfortable and beautiful in everyday use.
Begin with the product guidance
Hand-painted ceramic tableware is not one single material specification. Decoration methods, glaze systems, metallic details and form all affect appropriate care. The first step is therefore to follow the guidance supplied for the specific piece.
Do not assume that every ceramic item is suitable for a microwave, dishwasher, oven or sudden temperature change. When the instructions are unclear, gentler use is the safer household choice.
Wash without unnecessary abrasion
For routine cleaning, use a soft sponge or cloth and a suitable household detergent. Soaking dried food briefly is usually better than attacking the surface with a hard abrasive pad.
Pay attention to rims, handles and raised decoration, where repeated impact is more likely. If a piece includes metallic trim or special surface effects, keep it away from appliances and cleaning methods that the product guidance does not approve.
Stack and store with the surface in mind
Ceramic is strong in normal use but can chip when hard edges strike one another. Avoid dropping pieces into a stack, and consider a soft separator between frequently moved plates or decorated surfaces.
Before storing, allow the pieces to dry fully. A calm routine of lifting, placing and checking the rim does more for long-term care than saving the tableware only for special occasions.
